When rest isn't enough
Why rest isn’t enough if your nervous system never switches off
Many women over 40 believe they’re resting but their nervous system never truly switches off. There's an undercurrent of fight-or-flight due to years of being always-on, always putting others needs first and spinning too many plates.
They may take breaks. They sleep, scroll, exercise, or take time away. They eat all the right food, do all the exercise. And yet, the body remains tense.
Always on!
The mind keeps scanning - the sense of being “on” never quite disappears.
That’s because rest and nervous system regulation are not the same thing. If the nervous system has learned to stay alert due to years of responsibility or subconscious conditioning, simply stopping activity won’t reset it. It can also boil down to beliefs that maybe they need to keep going to prove their worth or that they are an 'imposter' and need to keep pushing through.
I can't fully relax anymore!
This is why so many midlife women say:
- “I rest but I don’t feel restored”
- “I’m tired even after a break”
- “I can’t fully relax anymore”
Recalibration allows the nervous system to release stored tension and emotional residue - creating the conditions for calm, clarity, and self-trust. It's also when the mind and body has a moment of quite, stillness, nowhere to go or nothing to do.
And it happens most effectively in safe, guided, shared experiences, where the body can settle in real time.
If this sounds familiar, I’m creating something a little different - a shared immersive experience designed to help women truly recalibrate. You’re very welcome there and I can't wait to share this with you!
